The residency took place on the island of Upernavik off the North West coast of Greenland for five weeks during January/February of 2011. During my stay I was able to draw only very quick images outside as the temperatures were very severe. My notebooks became stuffed with sketches, and written notes. Once back inside I would work from these images and produce larger work mostly on paper to be sent home as works in progress. I also took many photographs to aid colour memory. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the people of Upernavik who allowed me to live and work among them during the winter of 2011. To the Danish embassy who encouraged and supported this exhibition.
